Welcome to Autumn

I've spent most of my life in a region that didn't have any discernible change from Summer to Autumn (aka Fall for US folk), so I'm still ridiculously excited about seeing the seasons change before my eyes. This is only my second Autumn in Sydney, and it appears that the season has already devised its own annual greeting just for me - because nothing says "Welcome to Autumn!" quite like a massive leaf smacking you in the face!

With all fairness to Autumn though, I did need the wakeup call; I'd been walking all day along footpaths covered in fallen leaves, feeling them crunch under my shoes, and I even had to dodge a few mini-leaf-tornadoes...but it wasn't until the suspiciously oversized maple leaf hit me in the face that I started to pay real attention. So thank you giant reminder leaf, otherwise I might have been missing out on this...

I've been trying to decide which is my favourite season, but I think I love them all fairly equally, though for very different reasons. I love the changing colours of Autumn, the fashion of Winter, the blossoming of Spring, and the long, hot days of Summer (preferably spent at the beach!)

Which season do you most look forward to? And which season are you happiest to see the back of?

I am always so sad to depart from summer, but that's because here on Canada's lovely West Coast we only get about 1 month of beautiful autumn weather before it gives way to a grey and dreary winter.
Your photo's have reminded me of how much I absolutely love that month though so thank you for the beauty.

Yes, yes - finally another fellow southern hemispherer. The leaves are transforming hue here in South Africa too! Mad for the apple pies, jerseys and clean fresh air ... Never a bad idea to have a change in scenery - outside and in.

I prefer autumn and winter, the air seems less polluted, easier to breath. Spring is nice to see everything bloom, rebirth. And summer, well to humid and hot. Must be with the age.
It's spring here, allergies on the way! Atchou!

Just for the record, we do use "Autumn" in the US.

It's spring here and it IS my favorite season, followed by autumn. I like the summer, but by mid summer in southern California it is usually too hot.

Ohhh I absolutely love Autumn it is my favorite season. I love the crispness of the air and all the colors. Summer is a close second though. In Chicago we have such long, cold winters I can't stand it.

Autumn. Not hot, just cold enough, and it's beautiful. Plus my birthday is in 2 days so that just makes it official lol

Autumn is gorgeous, with the warm colours and the contrasting weather changes. I am starting to love spring a lot more than I used to, and summer a bit less. Winter is my least favourite, but there are somedays when everything is just all so beautiful outside that it makes me glad to see the glittery snow piled on the ground.

Rachael Kearley - Wow, if everything changes in a month than it must be quite a sight to behold!

siblingmine - Oooh apple pies! I think I know what I'm having for breakfast :D

- Renée - - Autumn will be back for you know it! :D

Chantal - Oh no! I never thought about the havoc that Spring would play with allergies. That would NOT be fun!

waiting for now - Consider it noted! I just try to be mindful of my terminology because I know that if I started talking about jumpers and thongs in the US, I'd get a lot of very odd looks.

Janet - I have to admit, Spring makes me a little nervous. I always worry that my plants won't come back to life! I have a little tree that shed all its leaves last Winter and is only just growing them back now!

Grace - I have heard that Winter in Chicaco isn't the most pleasant event! I've never been anywhere quite so cold (Melbourne doesn't count, it doesn't snow there!) so I think that would change my outlook on Winter significantly!

Char - Yay, we can dance in the crunchy leaves together :D

Rose - Happy birthday!!! :D

erin meagan - I'm with you, I was never phased by Spring, I just wanted Summer to be here! But now being in a climate that does change in Autumn and Spring gives me a much greater appreciation!

Amy - It'll be there soon enough! You might even be missing the winter when I'm in the middle of it :D

Blinky St. James - I've always thought winter was my favourite, but now I can't decide at all! :

My favorite season is fall. I guess it's the whole back to school thing that gets me. The autumn picture you have posted are beautiful... but I will shut them out at this time, because here, spring just started and after the long winter, the last thing I need is to go back to autumn!
