Snow's Over, Kids

For the last 5 years or so, there's been one constant on my New Years Resolution's lists, and finally, fiiiiiinally, I can tick it off.

On the weekend, I saw snow for the first time. Ever.

Snow has always been a far-away concept for me, something inaccessible and exotic; magical even. And despite my many years in Sydney, it never really occurred to me that the Snowy Mountains were only a few hours away.

That is, until a sneaky Mr. Unreliable bundled me into the car first thing on Saturday morning and drove us all the way there. As soon as the snow-tipped mountains appeared on the horizon, I was squealing and bouncing around like a hyped up kid on Christmas morning.

Needless to say, by the time I actually made it onto the snow I was grinning from ear to ear so hard, my face hurt (though the 0°C temperature might also have had something to do with that!)

As I slipped around on the newbie slopes in my completely inappropriate attire, I couldn't have been happier. Sure, my tights-under-jeans combination was only just warm enough to excuse my complete discomfort, and my beloved leather shoes were soaked through in minutes, but it was worth the soggy socks a thousand times over.

So it's now official. I've seen snow and I absolutely loved it. It was just as magical as I expected...perhaps even a little moreso.

How fun! You've never seen snow, that's unbelievable. But now, you're like the rest of us! And it is magical until you have to shovel it, or drive in it!

I feel like I'm part of the Snow Club now :D But yes, I'm very glad I get to experience the novelty snow and not the day-to-day snow!
I have to admit..I've always taken snow for granted. I grew up in the Midwest and lived in Colorado for a year. I've never been a big winter/cold person due to the fact that the sun, warm weather and water are an addiction for me. I was the strange one in my family and group of friends always. But now that I've lived in Los Angeles for 7 years, I'm starting to get back to the joy of it. And reading this post brought a huge smile to my face and brought back a ton of good memories. Congratulations! Not only on ticking something of the old "To Do" list but also for finding that simple joy. And thank you for reminding me of it.

Nicole, I'm super, SUPER late in replying to this but I just wanted to say thank you so much for your comment. I'm not always very good at enjoying the simple stuff, or even noticing it much of the time, so I'm glad I was able to share a bit of my 'simple stuff' joy around :D
