Weekend Rituals

How cute are these egg cup mini-vases from Design*Sponge? A little ring of paper and a tiny posy of fresh flowers, and suddenly the leftovers from your morning omlette are adorning your table.

I'm going to blame my cold for the fact that I've done nothing with my weekend so far except eat chocolate and sleep, but in reality this is more or less what I do every year. I'd almost forgotten all the fun rituals that went along with Easter, like dyeing and painting eggs, Easter bonnets, and of course the beloved egg hunt!

Do you have any rituals for this time of year, whether for Easter or the arrival of a new season*?

*It finally feels like Autumn here - yay!

Thank you Anna, same to you!

I think we should recycle our eggs like this all the time! It not only says "Look at my awesome flowers", but also "Hey, I just had pancakes and they were GREAT!"
Well, we use to make a cake in form of a lamb; but with my friends, we cook a easter lizzard instead, just because in our language, the two words "lizzard"= "varan" and "lamb"= "baran" are quite similar :-) So it´s an improved tradition...we dye and paint eggs also and boys throw water on girls (because after that, girls will be more beautiful and healthy or what...) and so on...well, this thing with water is popular here, men like it of course :-) After being wetted, girls give chocolat eggs to boys.

You made a cake OUT of lizard, or in the shape of one? :O

Haha I don't doubt the men love the water fight tradition either, sounds like fun! How that tradition begin?
Well, we make a cake in a shape of a lizzard, of course :-D For the easter lamb, you can buy a baking form (well, I´m not sure you can say this like that in english, but...), but the liozzard, we do it handmade :-) You can look at it on my blog, there should be a photo in a post on the front page :-)
Are you asking me how the lizzard tradition begin or the water fight one? With lizzard, it´s just a crazy idea of me and my friends, with water, I´m not sure, we make it for centuries :-) Most of fathers and brothers just throws a glass of water on you when you are sleeping and then, happilly, return to their own bed, which you can´t because it´s all wet, or they grab you and throw you in the bath full of ice cold water, instead of a brook or something. As for traditions, this is one of them which is strictly kept, just because it´s fun for men :-/ We, girls, don´t like it too much. Also there is a tradition with a bircher - men (who else) have fun while running after you with a bircher and beating you, this one is also an easter stuff. with the water, it´s usually made on the easter monday - tomorrow. Of course they want chocolat or money for beating you! In some families, girls throw water on men the tuesday after...but that isn´t very old, it´s just a revenge :-) And what do you do on easter? Something like that or a completely different tradition? Oh, here, we don´t hide eggs for kids, but we decorate our homes with them :-)
That's a great idea... n it looks cool...great job

Thanks saji, I agree! It's not my idea though, you have to give Design*Sponge credit for that :)
